Just came across this on the BAS website. It's a fantastic book I would highly recommend, though I personally think that the price is rather on the high side and certainly in excess of prices on online auction sites where good copies are often available. I would personally have expected a re-issue such as this to be nearer £25.

I just tried Abebooks as you (sort of) suggested and picked up a 'good' copy with DJ for £18+p&p. Unfortunately there were no more being offered at this price.

Abebooks is always worth a trawl for titles. The 1971 reprint frequently comes up for roughly the price you paid. I'd have expected a modern reprint nowadays to be a bit more competitively priced, as I can't help thinking that it's pricing itself out of the market for a lot of people at this price.
Hope you enjoy the book, it's a rare bit of 'hands on' observational writing covering many of our species and their particular habits.

I've had my copy for a couple of decades or more- excellent, readable book!

Book arrived this morning and from a quick flick through seems chock-a-block with interesting material - and well illustrated too.

Yes Bruce, you'll soon be out there chomping your way thru' various spider species after you've photographed them, comparing the flavours .
I think Bristowe favoured Araneus quadratus as it had a 'nutty' taste (and such a generous portion as spiders go!).
