It looks like Xysticus (sp), with a Springtail hitching a ride, quite rare for me to find a Crab Spider, and especially at this time of year ... |

| | | Re: Xisticus (sp) I suppose that in some ways, being on a spider's back is one of the safer places.
Typical markings for X. cristatus, but that doesn't really prove anything with Xysticus does it.
The only specimens I have ever found have been in mid summer; but I am seeing a few unexpected spiders recently. A Meta segmenta is living quite happily in the greenhouse roof, and a small dark Linyphiidae species in a flower pot.
Saw a Pisaura mirabilis running away while I was digging the garden, and rescued another from the toilet bowl a couple of days ago. |

| | | Re: Xisticus (sp) Evening Gordon,
Do you have any additional images? I think an epigyne one would be very helpful indeed - do you tend to carry a specimen jar around? I found a P. mirabilis only an hour ago and trapped it - a female too, but what else can you expect at this time of year?! - but was unable to get an epi one - too hidden!
Take care, Jason |
