| | | Returning cave spiders On Countryfile tonight some spiders were returned to their caves from which they had been transported to a building. What kind were they? Rather attractive!

| | | Re: Returning cave spiders I think the project is actually moving two species Meta menardi and Meta bourneti . It was quite hard to say which ones were on the program. |

| | | Re: Returning cave spiders They were Meta menardi and they are not a particularly rare spider. They have been established in that building for some time, and I am not convinced that they had to have found their way there in the way explained. The immature spider is found widely in non-cave like habitats and disperse quite freely, colonising suitable habitats. I do not mean that the tale is untrue, and I welcome the work to catch and re-house the spiders. Good result!

| | | Re: Returning cave spiders An interesting project. As the building is going to be renovated I suppose the right thing is to put the spiders in a more natural habitat or they would get destroyed. The vacuum idea is a good one as they didn't get hurt. Thanks for the information.
