| | | unidentified green spiders Hi,
I found these two spiders (I believe both green) in my home, border of Kent/London, the first 2007 and the second 2008 (I have just got around to identifying the creatures I have been finding in my home!).
Does any one have an idea of what species these may be?
Thank you

| | | Re: unidentified green spiders Morning Annie,
An excellent-looking spider. 95% sure it's a Cribellate Spider, Nigma walckenaeri as Gordon thinks. I don't think there can be many other identical-lookers needing close-examination, so I'm pretty happy with the ID.
It has a UK-status of Na currently, meaning it is present in 30 or less 10km squares of the UK - a good find then! It is pretty local and occurs in London and surrounding areas. It is however on the increase to a degree and is quite common where you can expect to find it, so the Na status may be lifted... I think it's odd the way this spider, since it was accidentally introduced to the UK from Kew c100yrs ago, has been given a status in the first place - especially such a high one! I'm glad it has though, I rather like it. I wonder if it's because it isn't destructive or threatening to our natives - it spins small webs on the leaves of shiny or rounded-leafed plants such as Holly, in my experience.
It can be found in most months of the year as an adult, I found one outside last January when there aren't too many about.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: unidentified green spiders Hi,
I have just been looking & trying to identify my photos on my computer and relised i hadn't labbeld the green spiders.
Looking at this i didn't reply.
Any way thank you for the identification, after looking at the other forum it does look like a Cribellate spider.
