Can anyone ID this spider? Is it native to Britain?
This spider was found in an office in a nursery school in Lancashire. It's body in length is 2 cm and it's leg span is 7 cm.  |

It looks like Heteropoda venatoria - a Giant Crab/Huntsman spider. They are not native to this country and are usually brought in via bananas hence their common name Banana spider. They can bite, though would have to be provoked and are very fast movers, they must be treated with caution and respect. Could do with another photo from above if possible.
If you contact the RSPCA in your area they will probably have a contact who will take it off your hands (may even be me!).
You can keep it in a secure container and keep it  .

We thought it was a huntsman. Unfortunatly Boris was'nt in the best condition when he was passed to us (he'd had a long journey!) He died after a couple of hours... Poor thing! | | |
