| Thanks Freefeet yours is a better pic though, need a green smilie here!
I think the spider is a Araneus diadematus the common garden spider.
I'm sure someone will put me right if I'm wrong. |

No idea about the freshness thing Andestine, but would like to know as well. | You're right I think, Susie - Garden Orb Weaver, Araneus diadematus. Sorry, can't help you that much Andestine, but I don't think they'd leave prey longer than two weeks if that! If it had dried up, they'd likely just re-inject their chemical thing ( ...wow, look at me - I'm very technical ) and try again... oh, and you may already be aware that wasps are actually good pest controllers too. |

| | | Re: Spider versus Wasp Hi RangerSarah, I read your description of the "Spider v wasp" episode with great interest as I saw and photgraphed exactly the same sequence not too long ago.
Your thread came up in a search on the term "Spider v wasp" from a referral, and I was amazed at how similar the sequence sounded.
Thought that you may be interested in the pics sequence - and have taken your reply to Susie as an Ok, hope thats alright, link to my Flickr sequence is here; Spider versus wasp? No contest! | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Hope you like them, glad it's not just me that finds such encounters fascinating,
cheers, Martin | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
