| | | Re: ID if possible I don't know the species but have to agree on how handsome it is. Is it rather salty looking or is that my computer?

| | | Re: ID if possible Ah! but, those eyes do remind me of a Crab Spider.
The best I can suggest at the moment is Diaea dorsata but I'm not at all certain about the colouration; although it could be a male, but I can't quite clearly see the relevant bits.
Perhaps all that salt air has turned it's abdomen green!
The southern location would fit but I think it is more frequently found on trees.
I think this is going to be an interesting specimen. |

| | | Re: ID if possible Possibly Arctosa cinerea? or Arctosa Sp. one of the Lycosidae (Wolf spiders). Not at home at present so no books to hand.

| | | Re: ID if possible Thanks for looking guys and gals.
Just a little more info, did a quick measure and i'd guesstimate between 10-12mm nose to tail (no legs) and more grey than the greenish tinge my phone camera may have given it.

| | | Re: ID if possible I thought that Arctosa was a cool species from the north, or high ground but I could be wrong. Except A. perita which is possible although the colouration is a bit suspect and slightly smaller than your size estimate; but I wouldn't discount it.
If we are now considering a greyish species which lives on shingle and you would reduce your size estimate to 8 or 9 mm then I would also return to something I considered originally. A rather grey form of Pardosa agricola.
But let's wait for No. 9 to consult his tomes and give a considered opinion. |

| | | Re: ID if possible Arctosa cinerea certainly doesn't tally with the BAS distribution maps, it was the look of the spider that brought that species to mind. Having said that it reminds me of a species of wolf spider I collected at Newborough Warren on Anglesey some years ago. Something to check when I get home.
No.9 Spider
