| | | Re: Spider ids Evening Colin, #1: Maybe a Tetragnatha sp., do you have any other angles, or better still a dorsal? #2: A Linyphiidae member? L. triangularis is a possibility, though others share the colouring. Any dorsals? #3: Maybe a Metellina sp.? #4: Most likely, yes.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Spider ids Cheers Jason........ No top down I'm afraid. They're up-side-down spiders and in the middle of a low Laurel hedge.
I'll go check Tetragnatha sp.

Col | So you get upside-down then! No? OK... take a mirror next time and place it underneath the spider, then photograph the reflection. See how that works... |

Don't think that'd work with flash.
Thinking about it, could do it by placing the camera beneath the spider, on AF.
Then swivel one of those extended eyepieces, so i could see through the viewfinder........focus......get my head out of shot, and click. Bob's your uncle.

I just up the ISO to 400 and drop down one or two ECs. The resulting image will need post-prod such as noise removal and auto-correction, but it's better than nothing when you have poor lighting in these woodland locations!
I think I may try it. |

| | | Re: Spider ids I would suggest Meta segmenta male for the first one. The body doesn't look long enough for Tetragnatha, in my inexperienced opinion.
Agree with the others. No. 3 is probably a Meta segmenta female. But although it is rather late now, Meta mengei are still possible.
And I frequently end up lying in the mud trying to shoot behind a spider! Much of my spider photos from darker areas is with ISO at 800. With modern cameras and lenses you can avoid most of the high ISO problems. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
