Spider ID please
I found this specimen on a fence post without a web, in the woods and near a river, and its about 8mms long, i can get it to family, but then i`m stuck ...

Is nobody brave enough to have a go at this one?

In many ways, particularly the eyes and carapace, it reminds me of a strange abdominal colouration of Meta segmenta. But that is really just a guess.

Which family were you thinking about, Gordon?

I thought it maybe Araneus family, but have a change of mind .

Looking at the different pics, I would guess Metellina segmentata (or M. mengei) too. In any case, a pregnant one!
Araneus usually have more hair growth on the carapace.
