| | | Spider Catcher My old Spider catcher has finally come to the point of non- repair, however I have had it for over 10 years and It's been a faithful old friend.
So last week when the Spiders were coming thick and fast i had to come up with another form of catching them, so I've come up with this idea, and it works.
So all you do is, open your Zip bag, place over the Spider, Spider crawls up the bag, turn bag over, Spider drops into bag, zip the bag up and take outside, unzip the bag and leave the Spider to crawl out. Easy Peasy, Done this 3 times already and It could be the same Spider. |

| | | Re: Spider Catcher Zip the bag up! But that means you've got to get right up close to the spider! I'm sticking with my spider catcher, which is the sole of my shoe. Catches them every time and no problem with them coming back. |

| | | Re: Spider Catcher I don't like Spiders in the house but I wouldn't kill them. I remove them to the outside knowing that they'll eventually find their way back, but it helps me out at the time. It depends on the size of the Spider of cause, If it's small, then I just leave it, so it's not a matter of not liking them. I've even been getting up close and personal to the webs in the garden observing them and taking a few photo's.
The sad thing about killing Spiders is it teaches others to do the same. |

| | | Re: Spider Catcher If I tried the bag method they would probably rush round the other side and up my arm at which point I would hurl it across the room. Since I have been photographing them I can watch close up, which I would never have done at one time, but I still dont like it if they suddenly move Will suggest this to my granddaughter who is really terrified. I bought her a spider catcher (plastic thing) when she went to Uni and she thinks it kept them at bay! As I'm in a flat I usually put them out on the landing, hoping that they will head for another door

| | | Re: Spider Catcher Hello,
Just came across your thread. Thanks so much for the idea which I'll try out soon. I currently use a large clear glass and a soft fan sable painting brush to guide them in. Otherwise I use my hands if nothing else is available, but I prefer not to as there's a greater risk of damaging them that way if they're quick movers.
I've loved spiders ever since I was a small child. I once worked in a plastics factory, and they knew how soft I was towards spiders and insects. I used to be called away from my machine on a regular basis to rescue spiders (wasps etc.) from the women's loos
I keep some in the house (it's the French part of me). I love the amazing patterns so many spiders have on their bodies - far more attractive than many butterflies. It's such a pity that so many people never get close enought to appreciate that side of them.
Once again, thanks for such a useful tip - the bag seems a much gentler option than my glass.

| | | Re: Spider Catcher It works great, removed another Spider last night with no fuss at all. Once the bag has been placed over them they walk straight up the bag. Hope it works for you Andestine, and your right it's even friendlier than my old Spider Catcher that I had. |

| | | Re: Spider Catcher I have my zip bag at the ready, but in spite of nationwide reported invasions, and being surrounded by countryside, not a single house spider has crawled over the threshold in two days. My shed is full of them though, and that's fine
I'll send in a report as soon as I get to test drive it. Another nice advantage of the bag is that I'll get a chance to admire the spider from all angles before releasing it
Thanks again
