| | | Garden spiders with prey I can't stand those giant teg things, but I can manage garden spiders, especially as they are posing so well at the moment.
The breezy conditions make taking snaps even more of a challenge.
I don't know what this first spider has caught:
I think this one has mainly the shell left from a ladybird:
The final one was tantalisingly just out of reach. I suppose I could have got a step ladder but it was in the front garden and my neighbours might look even more askance at me than usual. I used my Panasonic FZ30 which has IS and an articulated screen; these helped me stretch up and still keep an eye on the target. The spider has a hawthorn shieldbug in its clutches. I have only seen one before and that was a couple of weeks ago on the printer in my den. I did release it through the window - hopefully this is not the same one:
