| | | Re: spider bite help please In the meantime can you describe it - size, colour etc. There has been quite a bit about spider bites on WAB lately and someone will definately know what to recommend.

| | | Re: spider bite help please Think of it as a wasp or a bee sting. There are no native spiders in the UK that can delivers a fatal bite, regardless of what the papers say.
Unless she has an allergic reaction to bites or stings I wouldn't worry to much.
Like most bites or stings it should disappear in a couple of days.
Depending on what spider it is - just keep an eye out for any extra signs (rather than pain and swelling at the bite area) - headaches, nausea, shortness of breath etc.
If in doubt a quick visit to the Doctors wouldn't go amiss.
Post up a pic if you can, but in the mean time - relax.

| | | Re: spider bite help please hi everyone
thankyou for the posts, i am trying to sort out how to upload and when i do i will post it
it swelled up like a sting. there was a promenant raised area and dep reddening. Kate described it as burning, nettle sting feeling. this settled within 1 hour and she seems fiine, thankfully.
I managed to catch the spider and looked on the Natural History Museum website. they have some files on there about those that do bite but this is not on there. do you think we should send it to them? |

| | | Re: spider bite help please In Southampton,we had a few newspaper articles in which people had been bitten by spiders whilst taking down washing. It was Steatoda grossa(although the alarming common name is False Black Widow, the Natural History Museum reports no fatalities ever). It will be interesting to see the photo.,and see what species it is.Jason | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
