| | | Re: IDs Please Spiders and a harvestman I suppose the obvious choice for the harvestman is Phalangium opilio but we really need to know the leg lengths because one of the Oligolophus or Paroligolophus species are also possible here.
P. opilio should also have some small but rather savage looking spines on the femora.
If it is one of the medium leg length harvestmen, a really clear close up of it's 'nose' would help to separate out the Oligolophus species as they each have a different shaped 'trident' bony structure. But it is very small.
Action Man is the expert on this.
The final spider looks like one of the Lycosidae family and possibly a Pardosa species. That is an excellent photo but a top down shot would be helpful to give a better 3 dimensional view.
Agree with Aeshna about the 2 'easy ones'. |

| | | Re: IDs Please Spiders and a harvestman Can you give an estimated length of the body ?, and the habitat you found it in ?, and if you can guesstimate the 2nd leg size, that would be more than helpful,
I think i have a good idea of what it is, but this species can be quite variable in pattern and colour, so the size and location would be helpful ... |

It caught my eye because I had not seen the colouration before, the ones I normally see are a reddish colour, but this was well away from my normal haunts.
It was found in an area of lots of nettles, quite a small area with lots of insect species. There was probably some cattle pasture nearby and also a river a few tens of yards away.
I'll do a 100% crop of the nose area and a wider shot showing the legs. You will see from this she is on top of a nettle plant. For scale the original photo with about 22mm wide
Doing the sums that makes the 2nd leg 20-30mm depending how much you correct for it being bent. This sounds very short to me so I am not sure it is a reliable estimate. |

| | | Re: IDs Please Spiders and a harvestman Can't quite make out the trident spines clearly but there does appear to be something there, and coupled with what looks like clearly sharp angled femora I would put my money on Oligolophus tridens.
But wait for Gordon's return for a better opinion. |

| | | Re: IDs Please Spiders and a harvestman Hi Lester, yes this is where i hang out.
Its none of the ones you have mentioned so far Geoff, i am pretty familiar with O.tridens and P.agrestis.
I think its one i haven't seen so far, which is Mitopus morio, there is a hint of ocular spines and as you say just a an indication of a trident, the body saddle fits reasonably well, although this can be quite variable.
I will get a 2nd opinion shortly and come back to this one ... |
