Spot the spider
This one was well camouflaged on a head of verbena bonariensis:

Araneus diadematus, prob. male tho. can't see the palps in your photo.

Agreed, the markings on the abdomen look right. Also thin enough to be male, most females are pretty fat at this time of year.

A very well concealed spider, that one, and a lovely photo.
