Hi,
I found this female wolfspider (Trochosa) roaming around on a cornish meadow in August 08

Whereas this one was hidden in a burrow under black plastic foil somewhere else in Cornwall in May 09

It seems to me like they could both belong to one species. Can anyone tell what species, please?

Evening Ape,

The second may be an Alopecosa sp. Both look similar to me, though Lycosids can be hard.

I'm no expert, but I know that they all agree that Lycosids (given a few exceptions maybe) cannot be identified to the species through photographs.
I know this is especially true for Trochosa females. I have a determination table which is only valid for males. For females, you need to examine the epigyne...

Thank you both for reply. One can probably never tell the species just from a picture. I should examine reproductive organs when I meet a male or a female without kokoon nor youngs next time.
