Probably way out but nearest i could get is anelosimus vittatus. apologies for the poor pic it's only 2-3 mm and for my compact it's a tough ask

Firstly the small print, Chris. I'm definitely not a spider expert and I'm only going by my book here.

However, my book shows the third pair of legs as the shortest for Anelosimus species while your specimen appears to have quite long legs here.

Not sure that I can offer much of an alternative though. Was it hanging underneath a web? If so I just wonder about one of the Linyphiidae family; several of which would roughly match, but they can vary a bit in colouration between individuals.

Perhaps a more knowledgeable person will be able to add more information.

Thanks for looking Geoff, it was climbing the wall in my bathroom, i don't normally look at the small ones but as this one had a pattern i thought i'd give it try. i'll endeavour to get a better picture over the weekend.
