| | | First wasp spider on the Isle of Wight?
Normally the Island is fairly resistant to invading species, but found this rather large fella sat next to the lock when I went to open our industrial unit in Ryde this morning. First time I've seen one of these over here (or at all), gave me quite a start. |

| | | Re: First wasp spider on the Isle of Wight? Not especially, as far as I'm aware (please correct me if I'm wrong someone). Nearly all spiders have venom for subduing their prey, but I didn't think Argiope's was especially harmful to humans. |

| | | Re: First wasp spider on the Isle of Wight? Apparently as you say they aren't so rare on the Island, but I've lived here pretty much my entire life and never seen one before. As for venomous I treated it with care, using the general rule for bright colours, but I can't find any reference to them being dangerous so I assume the colour is purely defensive ie faking it | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
