| | | spider bite? 4 months ago, while sitting watching tv,one of my feet became intensely itchy on the sole. believe me,this was itchiness id never experienced before. when i looked to see what,if anything, was causing the itching-i noticed the area beginning to swell slightly-and on further inspection noticed two tiny puncture holes about 1mm apart. i immediately thought' spider bite' so i squeezed the area til i drew clear liquid--after that, the itchiness faded away. the puncture marks healed-but showing their scars was my party-piece for quite a while! eventually the whole area that had been affected, peeled.
what spider might have bitten me? i never found a squashed one----but this whole incident put me off walking round with bare feet!

| | | Re: spider bite? it was a dreaded foot monkey bite!
in 10 years time your gonna turn into a monkey!
lol but no, thats not how spider bite felt to me... more of a warm, bruised, swollen affair. no itching, no peeling. some minor discolouration.
maybe you stepped on a splinter earlier in the day and got a small infection?

| | | Re: spider bite? Few of our native species are capable of penetrating human skin, and dependant upon the the specific area of your bite I can't imagine even the usual culprits being capable in what is a generally harder area of skin. Walking in barefeet can lead to penetration by numerous things. Even a stray hair could penetrate the skin and cause awful infections (this was pointed out by a barber friend!).

| | | Re: spider bite? I often go out with my camera looking for wildlife to photograph. I have a special interest in reptiles especially snakes. I tend to turn over an awful lot of rocks and logs etc (which I always carefully replace). During the course of doing this I have been bitten twice by spiders. Both times my hand felt very hot and itchy. The first time this lasted for about an hour or so but the second time (which happened about a month ago) resulted in my hand swelling quite considerably and lasted for several days. Both times the spiders were fairly small.

PS. I've no doubt that others will now say I'm talking rubbish but that doesn't matter to me at all. |
