| | | Re: butterfly eating spider id please Yes, the Goldenrod Crab Spider Misumena vatia is an active hunter, it doesn't lay webs so instead waits patiently for a prey item to come near - then strikes at speed. Search the WAB Gallery for other shots of this ambitious spider catching often larger insects than itself! It can change between white and yellow depending on the colour of the flower it may be on. M. vatia is a sexually dimorphic species, the females being bigger than the males. She needs larger prey items more frequently to produce good eggs.
