Orb-weaver?
Hi,

19 month old son just found this on the garden gate.

I've searched through the spider Gallery and it looks similar to a walnut orb-weaver, but with longer legs. It's around the size of a 50p piece including legs when sat comfortably.

Correct - Walnut Orb-weaver - Nuctenea umbratica. On very rare occasions if touched/handled roughly it may nip... but no cause for concern!

I was under the impression that the males were much more leggy than the females, which is why derbyjon thought it was only similar
