| | | Re: Spider ID please The reason I dismissed Drassodes is because the anterior median (?) pair of eyes appearperfectly round, whereas I thought they were more oblong in Drassodes? But to be honest I have never seen a Scotophaeus specimen this smooth or his colour. It is a pain of a specimen!

| | | Re: Spider ID please I think it's a typical Drassodes. The shape of the posterior median eyes is probably a bit difficult to assess due to the angle from which the photographs were taken.

| | | Re: Spider ID please That would make sense. Okay, phew! I will stick to Drassodes. Thanks to all for your input

| | | Re: Spider ID please I don't have any first hand experience of Drassodes but I have plenty with Scotaphaeus blackwalli and I can confidently say that the spider in your picture is definitely not S. blackwalli
Cheers. Nik.

| | | Re: Spider ID please Sorry, one last question. What differentiates my specimen from Haplodrassus?

| | | Re: Spider ID please Basically, in Drassodes sp. the trochanter (joint section between coxa and femur) has a notch in it on the underside, and tibia IV has two dorsal spines whereas Haplodrassus has none. The notched trochanters or absence of, are my first check when dealing with these as they are so obvious on close examination.
