| | | Unknown spider Unfortunately this is the only pic I could get of this mother spider. Found near Bideford in Devon, approx 6mm. The plant she has made home in was at the edge of a large lake. Does anyone have any ideas on this one? |

| | | Re: Unknown spider That web construction and the 'posture' of the spider does remind me of Pisaura mirabilis guarding the nursery, I am seeing quite a few now. But I'm not over confident here, although part of the spider's legs are hidden so they are possibly long enough and they do vary considerably in colouration.
See what the experts say though! |

| | | Re: Unknown spider Does anyone else have an idea with this one? I thought Pisaura mirabilis too, but it just does not sit right. For starters the web is very different to the ones that I have seen before, and the abdomen looks more rounded. Plus the dark and light contrast on the abdomen seems off. Even a genus would be a start if anyone wishes to add to the list?

| | | Re: Unknown spider Everything fits for Philodromus: the prosoma pattern (dark, with white median band); what's visible of the abdominal pattern; the long front two pairs of legs; the egg sac.
A number of Ph. species have the diagonal white stripe on its side, like this one here: Datei:Cespitum Werner.JPG ? Wiki des Spinnen-Forums

| | | Re: Unknown spider Thanks Faz. It's funny, that was the species I was looking at. Although I know colour and patternation is not a reliable factor. But having trawled google, it certainly seems the best fit
