First Wasp Spider of the year.

Insistence pays dividends. I've been nurturing a very small plot(about 20x20 feet) of land for about 4 years now at work and after last year's surprise arrival of a Bee Orchid, this year, after noticing a large emergence of Burnet moths and the arrival of Cinnabar Moth, Tortoise Beetle and 3 species of grasshoppers, I discovered a small but very beautiful Wasp Spider.
I started insisting that this little plot wasn't mown, even after summer and a no-go area for feet. The ground slopes slightly to the south, is carcareous and a real sun trap.
Tomorrow, I shall photograph all these wonderful invertebrates and show my work colleagues how productive nature can be when left to get on with it.
I'm chuffed.

Nice one W.W. I've been hunting for wasp spiders for a couple of weeks now but no luck yet. Saw plenty last year on the river bank opposite Rainham Marshes at Erith during my daily lunchbreak walks.

Will have to start looking out for them,had never noticed them before last year-terrible confession I know!!
