| | | Re: Colourful spider with red spectacles For those members interested in behaviour, I should have mentioned that the spider spent a lot of time waving those white-tipped front legs at the camera. The front legs (only) are an iridescent blue that seems to move up and down the legs as the spider lifts and waves them.

It's a jumper, Salticidae. Beautiful! Do you have a dorsal? |

| | | Re: Colourful spider with red spectacles Male obviously and fits the description for Euophrys frontalis, with Talavera petrensis similar but less likely as the orange hairs are more spread over the front of the 'face'.

| | | Re: Colourful spider with red spectacles They're real eyes, the large pair apparently give binocular vision and generally these spiders can focus on objects up to 25cms away - above average for a spider! They are often said to carefully investigate observers, lifting themselves up on their front legs and looking to you - as is happening here! Well caught Bruce, and thanks for the dorsal! |
