| | | Is this Hypsosinga sp. On the S. Devon coast path. About 5 mm. Typical Araneidae web in low bracken.
At first, I thought this was just another Meta mengei but a closer inspection made me wonder about the ID. Rather poor photos I'm afraid; just had my landscape lens, but it will focus to around 10 ins at 135mm, and only a monopod for support.
Worst of all, the spider was busy spinning it's web in a stiff breeze. And she must be a bit accident prone considering the 5 legs!
I'm not familar with this species so confirmation or suggestion of alternative ID would be welcome. |

| | | Re: Is this Hypsosinga sp. Thanks, the carapace and front leg spines match a lot better.
But in my defence. This is a new species for me and being unsure of the ID I was checking through my book illustrations and Mangora is on top of the Linyphiidae page; and I was quite certain it wasn't one of that family.
I must look more carefully in future. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
