| | [ID] Salticus sp. Hi all!
I would just like an ID on this one please... 29/5/09, the garden this afternoon Any ideas? The markings look different... ...and squarer compared to others I've seen.
Thanks for looking!
Take care,
Jason |

| | | Re: [ID] Salticus sp. When I was trying to ID a spider I found this morning I came across a spider that looked alot like yours. It was the zebra spider (Salticus scenicus), a common household jumping spider.
I think you've probably already considered that one though. I've only just started taking an interest in uk spiders since this morning and now wish I hadn't. I didn't realise how many uk spiders actually bite!!

I did consider S. scenicus which it probably is - but the pattern looks slightly different; squarer with white spots on the abdomen. |

| | | Re: [ID] Salticus sp. So do you think S. scenicus too, Des? I know it kind of varies, but it doesn't quite look right to me. I was considering S. cingulatus, but even that doesn't fit.
A juv maybe? |

You can't tell from just a visuals - going to need epigyne shots, but you know that

I'll have a quick look for the knot in the wood and show the scale that way... back soon, and thanks! |

Multiply the first number by the second number, that gives you some idea how dangerous these things are.
