Said 'new' spider that the media has been hyping has lived here for the past 140 years!
(
Steatoda nobilis - is the spider they are talking about.)
It's not deadly, and doesn't carry enough venom to kill a human - it really bad journalism I'm afraid. Just sensationalist clap trap.
Generally classed as Steatodism
The clinical presentation of Steatoda bites was characterised by moderate to severe regional pain (26%), with a mean duration of six hours, and systemic effects in 30%, notably nausea, headache, malaise, and lethargy.
THE GLOBAL EPIDEMIOLOGY, SYNDROMIC CLASSIFICATION, MANAGEMENT, AND PREVENTION OF SPIDER BITES by JAMES H. DIAZ
However - bites are very rare and are always in self defence (they have poor eyesite and won't bite at a drop of a hat - they aren't an aggressive spider and as you can see from the results only a quarter - ish were moderate or severe - it depends how much venom was used)
The people that went in comas etc were allergic to the bite, just like people are with wasp or bee stings!
Just so you know
Your spiderlings grow up to be these:
