| | Spider wearing scarf! Spotted this on a leaf of Yellow Flag in my local park a few mornings ago. The Green Cucumber Spider ( Araniella cucurbitina) [please correct me if I'm wrong] has some sort of insect larva wrapped around its neck!
Looks like a scarf! It had been a chilly night |

Well....

| | | Re: Spider wearing scarf! There are external parasitoids of spiders which attach between the cephalothorax and the abdomen, but I can't remember which group they belong to, and this one looks a bit big. Very intriguing photo. Did the spider seem a bit sluggish? |

That's interesting info - thanks.
The spider seemed to be going about its spider business normally. I had just disturbed it from a bit of web-making, I think, and I watched it moving along the Yellow Flag leaf for maybe 20cm before I focussed elsewhere,

| | | Re: Spider wearing scarf! Excellent Gordon thanks for that. I have been looking for spider parasite and could find very little. I think you are correct with that id.

One doomed spider!
