| | | Re: Introduced Spiders I would recommend a trip to a well-established Garden Centre, then look around for raggy webs. You are looking for Uloborus plumipes, a spider that was very uncommon only a few years ago, but which I have found in most garden centres in the local area. This includes York site of Sainsburys and the nursery site for Scarborough Borough Council. This spider makes an orb web, but with non-sticky silk of a multi-strand nature. It is quite small, but the way it hangs in the web is quite dramatic, front two legs spread out and the end limb of the leg held like daggers. I do have a photo or 2, I will have a look. This would be my number one "alien" to find, it is such a fascinating member of a strange family of spiders, orb web but cribellate web weavers, the native member of ths family is Hyptiotes paradoxus. Have a look on the web for more information on this, the distribution is quite fascinating..
