| | Salticus zebraneus - significant? Hi all!
I recently photographed what I thought at the time was a dark Salticus scenicus. Today I was going through my recent photos and ID'd one as S. cingulatus following Gordon's (Action_Man) recent thread - and realised another was in fact S. zebraneus!
Is Salticus zebraneus an interesting or even a significant find? Apparently it has a fairly small SE distribution. I noted it's huge black pedipalps with a smaller bit kind of wrapped around it... any explanation of these parts greatfully received!
I can post a photo if you like
Thanks!
Take care,
Jason |

| | | Re: Salticus zebraneus - significant? ...wait no longer!
I have attached all five I've seen... a picture that is, not the actual specimen. No forget that, a silly joke
- Salticus scenicus
- Salticus cingulatus
- Salticus zebraneus
- Heliophanus cupreus
- Heliophanus kochi/flavipes?
Any errors? Oh, and any info on S. zebraneus' distribution/threats/status appreciated!
Take care,
Jason

| | | Re: Salticus zebraneus - significant? No.1 looks like a juvenile S. sceniucs to me.
No.3 looks like S. scenicus (male) to me. |

| | | Re: Salticus zebraneus - significant? I've seen it twice, so if I see it again perhaps I'll trap it and get better photos & measurements. |

| | | Re: Salticus zebraneus - significant? 1: S.scenicus female
2: Salticus spp, possibly s.cingulatus
3: S.scenicus male (need to better shots though)
3 & 4: Heliophanus cupreus, last one a juvenile (most likely)
Lot's of possiblities with these - you'd need to see them under a microscope to be sure.
Add this to your spider favourites, it's a good site; Salticidae :: Araneae :: Arachnida :: worldwide database of jumping spiders by Dr. Heiko Metzner
navigate with taxonomy or illustrations.
