Salticus scenicus/cingulatus

I wonder if anyone has ever seen S.cingulatus ?, i presume the one below is S.scenicus, but its not the usual colour, the abdomen is a light brown and white, all the others i have seen are black and white ...

the Collins Field Guide mentions that colour can vary (S.scenicus), in particular that brown hairs may be present on the abdomen.

Yea the colour can vary somewhat. the S scenicus that i have in my garden can look brownish on the abdomen. i belive that Salticus scenicus has the best eyesight of any arthropod. that came up in an exam i had to do at uni on inverts in the UK!

...yep, they can focus up to 25cms

It really needs a dorsal view of the abdomen, though I think this looks OK for S. cingulatus... any other shots? If so, look for dark triangular markings on the abdomen. Yours has an eye a distance back on the thorax - a good sign for it, or a general Salticidae thing...

...oh, and thanks - out of curiosity I googled S. cingulatus - and realised I had photographed one recently
