| | | Spiders for ID please Posted this in the general thread but probably better posted here.
Spider 1
Spider 2
Spider 1 colouring was a surprise. Any help would be gratefully received.
Sorry - seen yesterday on Portsdown Hill, Portchester.
Thanks
Peter

| | | Re: Spiders for ID please That is certainly something of a surprise. Any radio active waste in the area!
The general appearance of the first spider suggests Clubiona sp. to me, possibly Gnaphosa as an alternative. Any indication of size?
I can only suggest that is a freak colour and it has found some suitable flowers on which to hide. I know some spiders, like the crab spiders, can change colour but I can't think of anything which looks suitable as a match.
The last spider is also puzzling me, which isn't difficult to do! Somehow, I think we have had a similar question before but I can't remember the answer. Some of the Linyphiidae species have similar colouration and abdominal shape
And a few Araneidae have odd colours but the abdomen of your specimen looks a bit too narrow for me.
I will have another browse through my books later; unless one of our experts comes to the rescue beforehand. |

| | | Re: Spiders for ID please Thanks Geoff,
The body size (excluding legs) was about 5mm for both spiders. Glad I am not alone being surprised by the colour of spider1. I only noticed it when taking images of plants . It certainly was well hidden in amongst the flower buds.

Again about 5mm (excluding legs). Langstone Harbour, Hampshire.
If anyone can shed further light on the other submission in this thread, it would be greatly appreciated.

| | | Re: Spiders for ID please Remember, Peter, spiders were designed to be difficult to identify!
Don't think I would ever have worked out that last one. Appears to be mainly a southern species in this country. |

| | | Re: Spiders for ID please Thanks all. Still a mystery then. I must say that I have not seen another spider the colour of spider 1.
