| | | Tight Squeeze I recently saw a large spider in the space in the window frame.... i was not sure what it was but i had my ideas... anyway now this large spider is out from the window frame but has chosen a rather tight hole to live in.....
my initial thoughts where this spider being a house spider of sorts but after viewing the photo the rather messy trip wires around this spider plus the very clear shiny greenish fangs (not so clear on here but very clear on camera viewer) i now believe this to be a rather large S. Florentina |

| | | Re: Tight Squeeze Can you get her out with a tuning fork? I know tuning forks are not that easy to come by, gut S. florentina does go mad for them. (Ask my daughter, she twanged one and it went halfway up her arm).
What I can see on there is not very helpful for an ID.

2) I already know its Identity - S.Florentina
On my camera i have a viewer and this spiders fangs and everything showed up much better but i have brightened up one of the photos and zoomed slightly....
this should help you I.D for yourself.
As for getting better shots well........ i will pop out later and see if she has come out a little more, i'm a little worried though as this is by the back door and we have dogs that she could hitch ride on into the warm house. |

| | | Re: Tight Squeeze for the lazy so and so's on here that don't bother to click on an image you will have to with this to see it properly.
Anyway i am thinking that this might be a male because they tend to have the longer legs, that said if this is female then she is one big beauty worthy of a photograph session |

You say males have longer legs than females, as we have one un-identified specimen that is not much help. I agree that the S florentina is a very impressive spider, s/he has a web, why would she want to jump onto your dog? Seems rather like jumping onto a space monster to go somewhere strange.
I would leave it alone, and accept that there are some spiders that are S. florentina, one of which may be your subject.

Our garden has many of them mainly because they are a very common spider in my kneck of the woods.
As for the dog bit well it wouldn't be the first time they have brought spiders into the house... once we saw a garden spider on one of our dogs...... also our bitch likes to play with them and she will walk round carrying spiders and also crane flies in her mouth then sitting and letting them go >>>> only to catch them again, this to here is fun but hey she is a dog. |

No need to disturb as it has come a litte further out of its web allowing for a slightly better shot....
the greenish tint is clearly visable in this (must click on thumb nail picture to enlarge) |

Do you vibrate the fork and then put the end of it on the wall to produce the sound? I'd like to get a good pic of a florentina out of its web, but the minute I get close enough for them to see me, they dash back in and all I see is a pair of green fangs glinting back at me! |

as for keeping it from running straight back into its web i'm sorry but i can not help you. The only one i managed to get a picture of out of its web was already on a walkabout | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
