| | Spider Bite My daughter (8) got herself in a terrible state tonight after she claimed to be bitten by a spider. "Don't be silly" we said, "Spiders don't bite. . . " until we looked and found it!!! I now have him/her in a Corning Centrifuge tube!
The bite looked like maybe a bee sting or nettle sting, oval 5mm and was painful. Needless to say she was not impressed. (daughter not spider)
I don't know anything about spiders but from web pics it looks like it could be Tegenaria Sp. - I've seen plenty of these around before
I have never heard of anyone being bitten by a British Spider. Does anyone have any other experience of this.
Thanks |

there are approx 12 resident species of spider in the UK that can bite... though there are occasionaly more exotic imports. |

| | | Re: Spider Bite I was quite surprised, when I first heard this a while back. Fortunately for Spiders and myself, I don't get close enough to them to find out. At least I hope not............ |

Anybody know what it is - is she suddenly going to have SpiderMan powers? |

| | | Re: Spider Bite It's an Amaurobius spp, most likely A.similis, a lace weaving spider.
When you're after an ID please give the size of the spider (excluding legs), thanks.

it even has the nice shiney eyes http://www.nhm.ac.uk/nature-online/l...ac-spider.html
