| | | Re: Spider Bite Firstly, I wonder if it might be a bit early for A. similis; but spiders don't have calendars so that isn't totally reliable.
Abdomen colouration is even more unreliable.
But, are there spinners visible on the abdomen? Difficult to be certain from that photo; but if so, wouldn't that point more towards Clubiona, or maybe Gnaphosa both of which would better fit the date?
But to come up with a reliable ID we need more information than can be seen in that photo. |

| | | Re: Spider Bite My thoughts go out to you and your daughter. Any scary experience with nature can be daunting, especially if it was a painful one!
My daughter was stung by an Ichneumon fly on her knee in the bath when she was the same age as yours which was a very traumatic experience for her. I will never understand why it happened either.
There are several English spiders that are capable of biting humans which only do so when they feel threatened. As Venger said, we are not their prey and in fact, are useless to them.
I have evicted 2 x S. grossa from my bedroom only today, I don't think they make for good bedroom companions.......

| | | Re: Spider Bite three members of my family have had spider bites. Each felt like a mild sting and all resulted in a blister that continiued to grow until it was burst. They take weeks to heal and will scar. we live in the west midlands so no exotic location. The spider in the photo by a previous poster was the culprit, easily remembered because to te untrained eye,at first glance,it looks like it only has 6 or 7 legs! | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
