| | | Steatoda nobilis? Found 3 of these in various corners of my porch last night when hunting for Segestria florentina. I *think* it is S. nobilis, but can anyone confirm please? |

| | | Re: Steatoda nobilis? It's an outside porch, and I've seen florentinas there before (they scare the willies out of me actually even since I found one in bed with me one night!)
There was no sign of any tell-tale tripwires though which would have indicated florentina There's plenty in my husband's shed though. |

This one >>>>>

Anyway i used to put my bike in the alley on a night time and this perticular spider often enjoyed going for a stroll, many a time i got the fright of my life to find it head hight on the wall 6inch from face, or another time it was next to the padlock and i didn't notice until my hand got dangerously close. |

| | | Re: Steatoda nobilis? Just prey that you don't react to venom like I do with 'Anaphylactic shock' !!!
It is not nice to react in this way and has an impact to your everyday life inasmuch as where you go, what you do, how far away from help are you, etc....

Florentinas don't really have a very toxic bit but it is known to be painful and often drawing blood. |

| | | Re: Steatoda nobilis? Generally classed as Steatodism The clinical presentation of Steatoda bites was characterized by moderate to severe regional pain (26%), with a mean duration of six hours, and systemic effects in 30%, notably nausea, headache, malaise, and lethargy.
THE GLOBAL EPIDEMIOLOGY, SYNDROMIC CLASSIFICATION, MANAGEMENT, AND PREVENTION OF SPIDER BITES by JAMES H. DIAZ
However - bites are very rare and are always in self defense (they have poor eyesite and won't bite at a drop of a hat - they aren't an aggressive spider and as you can see from the results only a quarter - ish were moderate or severe - it depends how much venom was used)

note: florentinas are aggressive spiders. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
