| | | Re: Steatoda nobilis? There's no way I'd purposely touch a florentina, you can tell from the size of their jaws that they would bite hard! Fortunately the one I found in my bed didn't get a chance to bite me before I flicked it across the bedroom. My poor husband then had to spend 1/2 hr searching for it as I couldn't go back to sleep until I knew it was gone.
The S. nobilis is currently living in a cricket tub on my desk and has been webbing it up. It also scoffed a cricket in the night. I'll put it back where I found it in a day or two, but I find them interesting to observe and photograph. |

| | | Re: Steatoda nobilis? I found a Florentina in my bath several years ago and was very scared by the size of it's fangs and it's aggressive stance!!!!
I discovered about 3 weeks ago that I can no longer have any sort of 'live' vaccinations!
I recently had my BCG at the local NHS occupational health office. They wondered if they should give it to me in A&E (due to previous reactions etc.) but decided it would be ok to do it in their office after all.........
Within 10 minutes I had gone into full-blown anaphylactic shock and had most of the A&E Doctors by my side within seconds .....
I just hope that I never get bitten by any of the Steatoda species!!!!
I will not prevent this allergic reaction from taking over my life though and will continue to study my beloved moths!!

| | | Re: Steatoda nobilis? Cheers for the reply. It certainly behaves like it, with the irregular tangled web, and the lack of visual perception. It seemed unaware of me until I touched the web, then it retreated into the grating. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
