| | do tegenaria Jump! i think i have a couple of tegenarea, in the house, when i went to catch the smaller of the two, (both in seperate rooms) it jumped off the wall at me!
a few days later another small one was on the ceiling and as i put a jar beneath it, again it leaped, into the jar!
looking at spidery sites it seems i have the common house spider but its two boxing glove bits at the front are huge! and of course it jumped! any ideas on what i actually have!!
i need answers, wife is getting frantic as we have a newborn in the house! |

| | | Re: do tegenaria Jump! Well, firstly the enlarged palps (boxing gloves) indicate a male specimen. Of the many I've kept I've never seen a Tegenaria 'jump', more a very fast energetic 'stretch' to catch prey.
Your spiders seem to be 'dropping' off the wall more than anything, which is a defence mechanism in a few species, mainly the orb weavers, though not generally Tegenaria.
Some more info would be good ie. size (excluding legs), colour, abdomen patterns etc. A photo would be even better.
In the meantime also have a look at Scotophaeus blackwalli .
No.9 Spider
