| | | Hairy legged opilione ID Any ideas on the name of this? Small opilione (I think) with short, fat, hairy legs Found in leaf litter. About 3mm long.
The pictures aren't great I'm afraid.
Cheers

| | | Re: Hairy legged opilione ID As you say the photos are a bit short on detail, but I can't see this as an Oplione, I get a count of 4 legs a side, I think some kind of mite. Opliliones have legs more distributed along the whole body, this seems to have all the legs at the front. I too shall watch this with interest.

| | | Re: Hairy legged opilione ID I dont know what stage of development its at, but it could be Anelasmocephalus cambridgei, as the size fits.
There is a PDF for download on my website regarding Opiliones, and an online article, if you look around i`m sure you`ll find it ... SuperMacro.Net |

| | | Re: Hairy legged opilione ID Nice one Action Man looks a very good match for the A. cambridgei shown here Trogulidae :::::: ARACHNIDA > Opiliones > Trogulidae -
Looking at the NBN distribution map if the identification is accepted this could be a first record for the county, I'll have to get in touch with the county recorder.
Thanks

| | | Re: Hairy legged opilione ID Oh. some of the pics that can be found on't net look exactly like. Where is my Harvestmen book? Page 50, Granular surface, leaf litter, short hairy legs covered in earth? You think you have ID'd it, and I agree. I really wouldn't have seen that as an Opilione.
There are some smart guys on here. |

| | | Re: Hairy legged opilione ID Hi Meta,
I must admit that I did wonder about mites, ticks and the like as well, hence the "opilione (I think)" in the first post. "odd looking crittur" was my first reaction
BTW I've downloaded a copy of the PDF from your site AM, Thanks
