Book Collecting - Spiders

[No.9 Spider]

Spent a bit of time listing my Spider book collection, I think it's an addiction. Fortunately I just need Spiders of Gt. Britain and Ireland part 2 by Blackwall or a combined copy of both volumes and I'll stop (probably!) .
I had a similar problem with microscopes but I'm cured of that now.
I always thought they'd be pretty cheap when I first started buying them, how wrong was I! for limited interest - read specialised topic!.

I have many, some rare, books on a particular subject (nothing to do with wildlife, though you may beg to differ if you knew the subject matter! ) and my sister once looked at the bookcase full of them and said "oh, but they're all the same!!!!" Duh!

They just don't understand, do they?

Most expensive? A Natural History of Spiders and Other Curious Insects – Eleazar Albin (1726). I never expected to find a copy of this as they had such a limited issue. Though most will increase in value, I love them for the historical side, 90% are worthless and outdated from a practical side. Particularly love the ones with pencilled annotations in them from previous owners, and I'm not too bothered at adding my own either.
Most wanted? Spiders of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Vols I and II - John Blackwall. Preferably a nicely bound single volume containing both volumes, the larger size edition and not at the price some people want.
I've got two copies of the first volume. The hand coloured illustrations are so detailed and lifelike they could almost walk off the pages.
And 'showing off' ? I'd welcome the opportunity!

good stuff, I've a similar addiction to books on British insects; I've only a few spider books as I'm not really interested but I would like 'Atlas of Yorkshire Spiders' by Clifford Smith. It must be rare - it's not on your list

Not one I'm familiar with, privately published in 1982 apparently so there'll be limited copies about. Abebooks comes up with just one for sale - yours for £40!
I have got the Collins one but missed it of the list, there's probably a few more I've missed.

Dutchess, I'm intrigued as to what your book collecting subject is, maybe a human element?
