[ID] Steatoda sp., please!

A spider from today please. I think it's a theriidae sp.

What size? Not a lot to go on with this image.

I'm probably going off at a tangent here but . . . I have seen similar abdominal markings on Linyphiidae, particularly Lepthyphantes. Less likely Bathyphantes.

But most Lepthyphantes are quite small, 3 or 4 mm at most. L. minutus is one of the larger species.

'My' spider looked a lot like yours but I never managed a positive ID of exact species.

But, and a big but here. I'm really only guessing here so wait for an expert.

Hi Jason, as Geoff says some more info would be good - size, habitat etc.
The markings are not unlike Lepthyphantes sp (or Lepthyphantes as was ) as Geoff points out.

Not too sure on size - maybe 1.5cms inc. legs??? I see something and photograph it for ID so most of the time I see it through the LCD. It was in the house.

Hi Jason , probably not Steatoda at that size anyway, and before Venger kicks your butt, the size (length) of the spider is taken as being from the front of the carapace to the tip of the abdomen, and so doesn't include spinnerets OR LEGS .

Oh - so maybe 0.6-7mms? The carapace being the tip of the head not including the palps, I take it?

I usually say 'fang to spinners', unless either 'stick out lots' either way.

Looks like a Linyphiidae sp>>Tenuiphantes sp possibly.
