| | [ID] Mosquitoes, Midges and... a spider. Hi WAB'ers,
I have some more please... from spring/summer 2007 with actual dates above the images. Kind of a mosquitoes and midges selection, I'm not sure. It's not an area I've taken much notice of until now
Thanks all
Take care,
Jason

Gnat - of course. One I should have included, mosquitoes, midges and gnats. What angle should I have used then, for next time?

| | | Re: [ID] Mosquitoes, Midges and... a spider. Hi Jason,
No.'s 1 & 3 could be Potthastia gaedii.
No. 2 Chironomus plumosus, they emerge from water much the same as mosquitoes but these are non-biting midges. They hold their front legs up, where biting midges or mossies hold their hind legs up. They cna vary in colour form white, green, black etc according to their location and food. The male has the big feathery plumes.
No. 5 is Chironomidae too but they can be difficult to ID. Could be Tanytarsus pallidicornis
You can find these on unimaas.nl

| | | Re: [ID] Mosquitoes, Midges and... a spider. Sorry - my fault for posting too many at once - to confirm: - ?? - Potthastia gaedii [Midge]
- Buzzer Midge - Chironomus plumosus [Non-biting Midge]
- ?? - Potthastia gaedii [Midge]
- Fungus gnat - ?? as yet [a fungus gnat]
- ?? - Tanytarsus-pallidicornis [Non-biting Midge]
So, no mosquitoes. Oh well, I was right about the midges
...great, thanks all!!
