| | | Spider ID Help... Hello all,
A while ago I posted with a spider that I couldn't identify that I'd seen in my flat, in London, and I wanted to reassure my girlfriend it wasn't dangerous as she is seriously arachnaphobic. At the time I came to the conclusion that, despite some slight differences in their descriptions, it was probably the woodlouse spider - Dysdera crocata that it was suggested to be.
Last night I came across a similar looking spider. I've been looking online and it does, once again, indeed look like the woodlouse spider except that it was a good 4 cm/1.5 inches in size which doesn't seem to fit with the woodlouse spider which, unless I'm misinformed, doesn't really get that big. It's legs were a reddy brown, and it had a large grey/purple abdomen and did have fangs similar to the Dysdera crocata.
Any suggestions? |

Any suggestions? | Sounds to me as if it is a woodlouse spider, they can get to around that size. They do poses a very painful bite but nothing that will do any real harm unless you happened to be allergic to them. They are fairly common but quite striking for a British spider. If you can obtain a pic I will gladly help you identify it as will all the others here.
Best wishes
