| | | Spider Bites I know spider bites are very rare, but I think I may have been bitten by one. Can anyone describe what a spider bite would look like and what symptoms might be.
In my case the tip of a finger was red, slightly swollen and quite tender. Within the red area are two tiny furrows in the skin (not breaking through skin) about 2mm long and about 1mm apart. There has been some papular urticaria in the immediate area but this has been intermittent.
I first noticed it yesterday morning so suspect I may have been bitten whilst asleep. The discomfort lasted most of yesterday and it is mostly gone this morning, though the furrows are still visible.
Of course I have no idea what really caused this but just wondered if a spider bite was a possibilty. The most usual species I find in the room are Scotophaeus blackwallii or Tegenaria spp.
I would welcome any thoughts
Thanks

| | | Re: Spider Bites I had a spider bite me once on the soft web between finger and thumb, no initial pain, no real marks, just a reddening and slight swelling which lasted for the rest of the day
I had been clearing and picking up leaf litter(no idea of what it was)

| | | Re: Spider Bites Aaron, from what you have described, you may well have been bitten by a spider.
Which spider will always remain a mystery I think?
Do you normally react in an adverse way to bites/stings etc.?
The fact that your symptoms have diminished is good news!!
You seem to be past the worst!
A spider 'expert' will be able to tell you more soon, hopefully.

I had been clearing and picking up leaf litter(no idea of what it was) | The sort of place a Woodlouse Spider may have been lurking. However, I think you may have felt a bite from one of these.

| | | Re: Spider Bites Thanks for responses and the links
It has totally healed now. I do tend to react to bites/stings (this was a fairly mild reaction for me) and tend to get bitten by anything and everything. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
