| | | Re: Size of raft spider There are some pretty large Tegenaria around this year, but it could be worse - did anyone else see the recent series about the wildlife crew filming in Guyana and Venezuela on BBC1? How on earth could that guy be so calm when there was a spider the size of a dinner plate crawling around in front of him?
I'm quite fond of bugs, but I think I'd have been heading for the hills at a fair rate of knots! |

No.9 Spider | Over five inches?? That is one big spider. If we had those in our house I'd be long gone. The usual Tegenarias set me all of a wuther.
I was in Norfolk a few weeks back and was fortunate to see a Fen Raft Spider (Dolomedes Plantarius) at Redgrave and Lopham Fen. It was a whopper alright and I'd never pick one up, but it was a lot less scary looking than those nasty Tegenarias.

| | Re: Size of raft spider out walking today saw a raft spider. It was the biggest british spider I have ever seen. Bigger than the house spider in my shed, and it's pretty impressive. I was amazed! |
