Large Spider ID Please

This leggy critter was captured by hubby 3 years ago.
The wine glass is one of those that hold a whole bottle.
The leg span must have been close to 4" (based on the fact it could touch both sides of the glass at the same time) and even gave hubby the shudders.
It was a uniform dull brown all over.
After a quick snapshot it was deposited outside in the courtyard.

I don't like spiders, and if that colossus turned up in our house I'd be off, never to return. I would think it is one of the Tegenaria (House Spider) species. Someone will be along soon to be more specific I suspect.

Yep looks like a male Tegenaria sp - they come inside looking for females.
They wont do you any harm.

Thank you both. I'm just glad we don't get too many spiders in here - I'm a wuss I know =)
