| | | Re: Help with Spider ID. Most Tegenaria species, probably over 90%, that you find in the bath will be males such as this one. They are on their last walkabouts looking for a mate before they expire. They are a bit earlier this year as usually its late Summer (have we had summer?) and into Autumn when the world and his dog report massive spiders in the bath and running around the living room in front of the T.V.
No.9 Spider

| | | Re: Help with Spider ID. I always hang a strip of toilet paper from the bottom of the bath to over the side, forming a 'spider ladder' in late summer/early autumn. That way they can go about there business.

I'm scared of Spiders so I'd much rather he goes down the plug hole where he came from than running around the house :P naturegirl
I try my best not to invite spiders into the house - if they get in,then that's fair enough, they'll be safe in my house as long as they stay clear of the dogs |

| | | Re: Help with Spider ID. I don't think he came from 'down the plug hole' they generally fall in rather than climb out. They aren't really suited for swimming.
At least with the 'spider ladder' you don't have a spider trapped in your bath in the morning
Spiders aren't going to hurt you, in fact they're just not interested in us at all - unless we threaten them enough to evoke a response (they only bite in self defence and not all can break the skin)
You share your house with many spiders - some you'll never see as they are nocturnal, but they do a good job of keeping down insect pests within the house and garden.

| | | Re: Help with Spider ID. That's interesting - I always assumed that the spiders in the bath came from up the plug hole, and often wondered what happed when you pulled the plug out of a full bath.
I'll Keep a look out for them. I really enjoy photography, and would like more spider pics. A Spider ladder it is
