| | Help! My spider has a problem! Hello, as some of you may remember I am keeping a female tegeneria sp spider (I posted about it a little while back)
But it has a problem; a week or so ago I checked on it and one of it's legs was missing! It looked as though it had just goten it stuck in it's own web and twisted itself unfortunatley dislocating and detaching it's leg.
But upon checking it this morning, it has another leg missing!
I thought perhaps it had a fight with one or two of the large woodlice in with it but I'm certain it could easily overpower a woodlouse.
The two legs in question are the rear two on it's left side (the right side if you look at it head on)
Can anyone tell me whats happened to my poor spider and why it's loosing it's legs?
Leprosy? Surgical addiction? I'm at a loss, I just don't know how it could have lost these legs |

| | | Re: Help! My spider has a problem! Hi JJ, spiders have the ability to eject legs (autotomy), usually at times of stress or to enable escape from a predator. I would find an alternative food source to woodlice as they are not the best prey for Tegenaria.
Losing a couple of legs shouldn't be too much of a problem. Has she plenty of space? or maybe you could release her a get a new one?

| | | Re: Help! My spider has a problem! Yes I'm considering releasing her, also I've been feeding her lots of flies, the woodlice are just there incase I can't catch my spider any food for a while- they tend to crawl up into the web and get caught & eaten every once in a while.
