Hi everyone,
I was wondering whether anyone would be able to identify this nicely patterned spider seen yesterday on heathland in Dorset. I would say that the body length was roughly 8mm, although I can't really remember.

Might be a Wolf spider.
might also be an Alopecosa sp of Wolf spider, but best wait for Venger to see it eh? I'm just starting to learn about our eight-legged friends...

Looks to me like a female Lycosid, probably Arctosa perita. Though without the usual info I can't confirm this, but it fits the bill (habitat, size etc)
They are very viable, generally depending on the conditions you find them.

Thanks both for your help, it certainly looks like the one in the photo but I'll keep it as a Lycosid species to be safe!
