| | | Re: Unidentified Spiders When did you take these photos Duncan?
First one is a Araneus diadematus - common garden spider, surprised there are any left if this is a recent photo (apart from the sheltered ones)
Second one I'm working on, though I can't see enough of what I need to help narrow it down, though I'm thinking Drassodes sp or something similar

| | Re: Unidentified Spiders Sorry Venger, the photos were taken in th garden in the summer, I din't think that it was a garden spider, they usualy have a white cross on their backs, I have some good shots of garden spiders. I am glad of your help.

| | | Re: Unidentified Spiders hehe dmclean... disagreeing with venger?... are you mad!?!?
lol, the pattern on the back is commonly a commonly a cross but not always
the back of orb weaving spiders (of which the araneus diadematus is) is coloured by cells called guanocytes which is where they store the waste products from their digestive system well all spiders have them, but on the orb weaving spiders it makes a cool pattern! usually a cross on the a.diadematus (which i think this one is)
the second one, im again gonna say its definately a drassodes, if i had to say... id go Drassodes lapidosus... but then arent drassodes nocturnal hunters? whats this one doing out in the daytime?
